Many people wonder if it’s possible to work while receiving Social Security Disability benefits in Arkansas. The answer depends on the type of disability benefits you receive and how much you earn.

Find out if you qualify for SSDI benefits. Pre-qualify in 60 seconds for up to $4,018 per month and 12 months back pay.

Please answer a few questions to help us determine your eligibility.

Working While Receiving SSDI

If you receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), you can work but must stay within the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) limits set by the Social Security Administration. In 2024, the monthly SGA limit is $1,470 for non-blind individuals and $2,460 for blind individuals. If you earn above these limits, the SSA may consider you no longer disabled and could stop your benefits.

The SSA also offers Trial Work Periods (TWP), allowing SSDI recipients to test their ability to work for at least nine months without losing benefits, regardless of earnings.

Working While Receiving SSI

For Supplemental Security Income (SSI), your benefits may be reduced based on how much you earn, since SSI is a needs-based program. However, earning some income does not automatically disqualify you. The SSA applies specific rules and exclusions to calculate how your work income affects your benefit amount.
